THE AUTHOR'S NOTE

According to a Japanese bulletin (No. 53-27775 and No. 37-12000), Bulbus Allii is steamed for a short period of time to kill the activity of its enzyme, which is extracted later with methanoi. The extracted enzyme is processed to get rid of its foul smell so as to obtain a substance for aesthetical purpose, resisting fatty liver and protecting vitamin C and B. It is thought that the substance is also effective for curing cancer. Since it has lost its irritating taste, the plant can be widely used as food. Recently, two Japanese scholars have developed a kind of tumor cells which contain the extract of Bulbus Allii. The cells, when injected into mice before the injection of millions of tumor cells, caused no tumor in the experimental animals. This is to say that the vaccine has an effective rate of 100% against tumor. In April 1958, Questions Regarding Oncology (English edition) reported that two Russian doctors treated 194 patients with white patch of lip cancer and 184 were completely cured. The effective rate was found to 95%. fective rate was found to 95%.]
