Concha meretricis(文蛤)

Chen Cunren said that: "The drug is salty in taste, mild and non-toxic in nature, curing ulcerous sore and hemorrhoids."

The drug is obtained from Meretrix meretrix L. of the Veneridae family. The shell is 3-10cm in length, large and thick, oval in the middle, protruding on the top, smooth on the surface and lustrous. The two shells are identical. The drug is produced in the areas near the sea.

ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS

1. The extract from the liver of Concha Meretricis can prolong the survival period of animals with Moloney leukemia. 2. The liquid extract from the tissue of Concha Meretricis with complex color inhibits mice sarcoma-180 with an effective rate of 30%, ascites cancer with an effective rate of 96-262.5%, ascites liver cancer and solid liver cancer with an effective rate of 40% or 50%. 3. Mercenene, a sort of sugar protein, extracted from edible Concha Meretricis, inhibits sarcoma-180 and ascites cancer-2, cures mice tumor induced by A12 and SV40 when injected into the tumor mass. 4. The water extract of the liver of Concha Meretricis evidently inhibits L1210 (cells of lymphatic leukemia).

For thyroid cancer:

Sargassum
Concha Meretricis
Rapana
Os Sepiae
Thallus Laminariae sou Eckloniae

Equal portions of the above herbs are made into pills with honey. 2 of the pills are taken daily. (Chinese Marine Medicinal Plants)

For gastro cancer:

Concha Meretricis 15g
Concha Ostreae 15g
Sargassum 15g
Thallus Laminariae sou Eckloniae 15g
Thallus Porphyra 15g

The prescription is taken in decoction. (Chinese Marine Medicinal Plants)

HISTORICAL COMMENTS

It is reported in Materia Medica that: "The drug clears away pathogenic heat to promote drainage, eliminates phlegm and abdominal mass, cures bloody dysentery, abdominal blood stasis, perspiration seen in the exogenous febrile disease, convulsion and paralysis of limbs caused by apoplexy. "

Supplementary Explanation on Materia Medica says that: "Menoxenia can be cured with meat of Concha meretricis. "
