Coriolus (玉芒)
It is defined in Journal of New Traditional Chinese Medicine that: "The drug is sweet in taste and slightly cold in nature, nourishing spleen to promote drainage and curing cancer."
The drug is the Sporphore or the Mycelium of Coriolus of the Polyporaceae family and it was found resisting cancer in 1979.
ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS
1. PS-K has been proved to resist cancer through reinforcing the specific immunofunctions of the tumor. 2. PS-K evidently increases delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity of mice with tumor. 3. The effect of PS-K against cancer agrees with the restoration of 1gG generation. 4. The drug inhibits many tumors of experimental animals, such as cervical cancer-14, mice sarcoma-180, ascites cancer, adenocancer-755, lympholeukemic cell-7212 and lympholeukemic cell-388. 5. PS-K (200mg/kg) inhibits mice sarcoma-180 with an effective rate of 70.2-77.5 % and reduces tumor size with an effective rate of 50-57%. 6. Intravenous injection of ATSO (1mg/kg) inhibits Swiss white mice sarcoma-180 with an effective rate of 99.3% and reduces tumor size with a 100% effective rate. 7. Coriolan obtained from the mycelia of the herb has a strong action against cancer, even stronger than ATSO and the coriolan obtained from Ganoderma and Polyporus. It inhibits mice sarcoma-180 with a 99.9% effective rate and reduces tumor mass with a 100% effective rate. 8. The effective rate of ATSO in resisting lung cancer is 77.2%, and that of Coriolan is 80.9%; and the effective rate of ATSO in inhibiting Shiono's carcinoma is 70.7% (for females) and 69.2% (for males), and that of Coriolan is 82.1% and 76.4% respectively. 9. Coriolan showed no evident effect on white mice without thoracic gland and hair when coriolan was administered with a dose of 100mg/kg, and the life span of only 20% of the mice were prolonged. It can be inferred that this sort of polysaccharides, like an interferon inducer, resists cancer through reinforcing the cellular immunity of the thoracic adenolymphocytes.
EXPERIMENTAL FORMULAS
For malignant tumor:
1>. 3 to 6 grams of PS-K is taken orally each day. 2>. Coriolus Polysaccharides Injection is administered intramuscularly 40 grams a time and twice a day. 4 weeks will be a course of treatment and between two courses there is a 2 week interval. or 120-160mg of the injection mixed with 300ml of 10% glucose is administered intravenously each day. This treatment may be continued for 10 days and, after 1 or 2 weeks of interval, renewed for 10 more days. (Journal of New Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vol. 6, 1979)
THE AUTHOR'S NOTE
In Japan, gastrocancer is treated with chemotherapy accompanied with ATSO. The drug is easy to be cultivated with soybean sauce, sugar and onion as the basic substances.
