FOLIUM PRUNI DAVIDIANAE(山桃叶)
It is defined in Collection of Comments on Materia Medico that: "The drug is bitter in taste and mild in nature, curing amenorrhea and abdominal mass. " The drug is the leaf of Prunus davidiana (Carr.) Franch of the Rosaceae family, containing glucoside, naringenin, lycopene and cynogenic glycosides. Prunus persica (L.) batsch of the same family shares the same function.
ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS
1. The average inhibiting rate of the drug on mice sarcoma-ISO is 41%. 2. Decoction of the drug reduces the enlarged spleen of mice with acute reticulocytic leukemia-615. 3. The powder or the 5% paste of the drug is effective in treating vaginal trichomoniasis. The paste shows a curative effect of 100%. It is thought that some insecticides are against the activity of cancer, because carcinocytic membrane is similar to the body membrane of insects in structure.
EXPERIMENTAL FORMULAS
For cervical cancer:
The leaf is pounded, wrapped and inserted into the vagina 3 to 4 times a day. (Mengxi Prescriptions for Vaginal Sore).
For nasal cancer:
The fresh internal part of the drug is pounded and applied to the nose frequently. (Simple Prescriptions)
HISTORICAL COMMENTS
Ri Hua Zhi Materia Medico says that: "The drug cures vomiting and high fever alternated with chill sensation."
Materia Medica says that: "The drug cures exogenous febrile disease, anhidrosis due to arthralgia caused by wind factors, headache, difficult urination and defecation and the abdominal pain due to cholera. " Collection of Folk Prescriptions in Guizhou says that: "The drug cures wind-wet syndrome when decocted for washing the body, and external application of the drug subsides inflammation." Dictionary of Chinese Materia Medica says that: "Sores can be cured with 25kg of the drug steeped in 50kg of water, boiled for an hour, filtrated, boiled again into a paste and applied to the lesion 1 to 2 times a day."
