Herba hydrocotyli sibthorpioiditis(天胡荽)
It was reported in Essential Properties of Medicinal Herbs that: "The herb, bitter in taste and cold in nature, is used to cure tinea capitis, fetid ear and infections above the nasal region." Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis is the dried whole plant of Hydrocotyle Sibthorpioides Lam. of the family Umbelliferae, which is found growing in East China, Central China and other places. It is also known as Herba Centipedae and contains flavonoid glycosides.
ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS
1. Fluorescent microscopy invitro showed that the herb has an antileukocytic action with an rate of 84.8%. 2. Bacteriophagic tests indicated that the herb had an antiphagic action. It is hence inferred that the drug has an active antineoplastic effect.
EXPERIMENTAL FORMULAS
For cancer of the liver:
Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis 60g Herba Scutellariae Barbatae 30g Herba Lobeliae Chinensis 30g Herba Oldenlandiae Chrysotrichae 30g Semen Coicis 30g
The formula is taken one dose daily in decoction and it Can be prepared into injections for use.
For nasal bleeding due to cancer of the nasal cavity:
Fresh Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis is put into the nostrils after being pounded to pieces. (Prevention and Treatment of Tumors in Traditional Chinese Medicine)
For urinary bleeding and pain caused by cancer of the urinary bladder:
Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis and Herba Polygoni Aviculare (120 grams each) are pounded to pieces to get its juice for oral administration with white sugar.
For squamous epithelial carcinoma:
Certain amount of the drug is decocted to make a plaster for applying to the lesion. (New Collection of Materia Medica of Zhenan)
For cancer of the stomach:
Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis 60g Herba Scutellariae Barbatae 30g Herba Lobeliae Chinensis 30g Herba Oldenlandiae Chrysotrichae 30g Semen Coicis 30g Radix Hostae Plantagineae 1.5g
The decoction of the herbs is taken once daily and 2-4 months make a therapeutic course. (Anticancer Herbal Preparations)
HISTORICAL COMMENTS
It was stated in Compendium of Medicinal Herbs that: "The herb can help relieve nasal obstruction, clear the nine senses, and spit out phlegm due to pathogenic wind." "It functions to remove toxic materials, improve vision and dissipate skin swellings. " Found in Supplement to Compendium of Medicinal Herbs was that: "To heal nebula, the herb is crushed and filled into the nostrils."
In Imperial Collection of Poems, there was a poem about Herba Hydrocotyli Sibthorpioiditis: "If nebula follows conjunctivitis, Herba Centipedae is put in the nostrils and replaced frequently, consequently eyesight will be restored in three days. "
In Dietetic Materia Medica it was declared that: "The herb cures hemorrhoid."
