Prospirobolus(马陆)

Li Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty said that: "The drug is hot in taste, warm and toxic in nature, curing malaria."

The drug is obtained from Prospirobolus joannsi of the Prospirobolus genus and the Strongylosomidae family. Its secretion contains cyanic acid and quinoid substances, and resists cancer.

ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS

 1. Paste made with the drug is proved to be effective in inhibiting mice sarcoma-180.
 2. The curative effect of the drug (33.3%) is similar to that of Bleomycin (36.4%) in treating experimental squamous carcinoma of mice.
 3. The content abstracted with dimethyladenine inhibits mice spermatocytes, this indicating that it resists the activity of cancer.

    Prospirobolus 18g
    Semen Ricini 6g
    Old Lime 3g
    Powder of tobacco 3g
    Radix Boehmeriae 18g
 The paste made from the prescription is applied to the lesion once a day or once the other day. (Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Correspondence, Vol. 1. 1974)

HISTORICAL COMMENTS

Materia Medica says that: "The drug, seldom used in ancient times, mainly cures abdominal cancer, stagnation, polyp, malignant sore, tinea capitis, heat accumulated in the abdomen, abdominal distention and malaria. " "The drug is only for external use because of its toxicity. "

THE AUTHOR'S NOTE

It is reported in Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Reference that 64 cases of dermatocancer were treated with a paste made with the drug from 1972-1976 in Sichuan Antibiotic Industry Academy. The total effect was 38.6%
