Rguzina arusaenatus(天南星)
Mao Xiyong in the Ming Dynasty said that: "The drug is hot and bitter in taste, violent in action and toxic and warm in nature, dispersing pathogenic factors and eliminating stasis or stagnation."
The drug is obtained from Arisaema erubescens (Wall.) Schott of the Arisaema genus and the Arisaema family, mainly produced in Yunnan, Hunan, Northeast and Southeast of China. A. heterophyllum Bl., A. Amurense Maxim., A, thunbergii Blume, A, ambiguum Engl. and A. fraternum Schott of the same family are used as the substitutes of the drug.
ANTICANCER PHARMACOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS
1. D-mannitol extracted from the fresh drug inhibits the activity of cancer. 2. The extracted liquid from the fresh drug strongly inhibits Hela cell. 3. The drug eases experimental pain induced on mice. 4. Intramuscular injection of the extracted liquid from the drug into mice (0.1ml each) with experimental tumor evidently inhibits the tumor.
EXPERIMENTAL FORMULAS
For malignant tumor of the never system:
Rhizoma Arisaematis 30g Rhizoma Pinelliae 30g Herba Xanthii 15g Semen Astragali Complanati 15g Rhizoma Zingiberis The prescription is taken in decoction. (Handbook of Practical Anticancer Drugs)
For lung cancer:
Rhizoma Arisaematis 30g Dinodon Pulveratum 30g Rhizoma Bletillae 30g Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae 30g Fructus Trichosanthis 30g Radix Glehniae 60g Radix Quinquefolium 15g Carapax Trionycis 45g Olibanum 20g Myrrha 20g Cinnabaris 12g
The herbs are ground into powder and taken I gram a time and three times a day. (Guide/or Clinical Treatment of Tumor)
For thyroid tumor:
One of the drug is ground with 5-7 drops of vinegar and applied to the lesion. (Yan Zhili *s Holly Prescriptions)
For dermatoma: The drug is blended with vinegar and applied to the lesion. (Simple Prescriptions)
For cervical cancer:
1>. The drug (15 to 45 grams) is decocted and taken as tea for 3 months. 2>. Local administration: 1). Medicinal Bag: 9 grams of the radix of the drug is washed (not steeped in water), added with 0.5ml of 75% ethanol, pounded into a paste, wrapped with gauze and inserted into the vagina on the lesion and changed once a day. 2). Suppository or claviformation: A suppository, containing 50g of the crude drug, is inserted to the os of the uterus; A claviformation, containing 10g of the crude drug, is inserted into the os of the uterus. 3). The extracted liquid from the drug is used for pelvic ionic dialysis. (Selected National Medical Research Papers, Vol. 2, 1972)
For nasopharyngeal cancer:
Rhizoma Arisaematis 50-150g Herba Selaginellae 100g Fructus Trichosanthis 15g Herba Xanthii 15g Radix Glehniae 15-50g
The prescription is taken one dosage a day in decoction. (Practical Oncology)
HISTORICAL COMMENTS
Pharmaceutical Properties of Materia Medica says that: "The drug cures abdominal mass and enteritis. "
Materia Medica says that: "The drug cures convulsive diseases, face-distortion, laryngitis, stomatitis, glossitis and tuberculosis. "
Elucidation on Materia Medica says that: "The drug eliminates stasis and stagnation, subsides swelling, calms the thorax and disperses blood to induce abortion."
THE AUTHOR'S NOTE
It is recorded in Holy Prescriptions that the paste made from the drug cures dermatoma: one of the drug is washed, ground, blended into a paste with some vinegar, spread on a piece of paper, applied to the tumor that has been punctured with a small needle. The plaster is administered 3-5 times a day.
