Guide for Readers
Anticancer Medicinal Herbs is a translation of Kangai Bencao in Chinese edition. During translation, every effort has been made to keep its meaning as exact as its original, though the theory of traditional Chinese medicine is different from that of Western medicine and so are the technical terms, which have been translated directly if they have equivalent or similar terms in Western medicine, indirectly or literally with supplementary and comprehensive explanations if they have no equivalent expressions in Western medicine. The following are what we want to explain to readers.
Tranlation of Herbs name
1. For those terms such as" qi, yin, yang, ying and wei", we have translated them with italic Chinese pinyin because they are the unique terms in traditional Chinese medicine and have a very broad concept even if they all are a single Chinese character.

2. The herbs in the book have been listed according to its Chinese edition, which had been set in an order according to the number of stokes of Chinese characters, but to facilitate easy reference to a particular herb or drug, we have worked out an index and put it at the end of the book under the title "Appendix Three: Index of Anticancer Medicinal Herbs".

3. Some names of the formulas or prescriptions in traditional Chinese medicine are too long when translated into English, so we used italic Chinese pinyin instead of its long English equivalents, and added an explanation immediately after them whenever we think it is necessary as far as understanding is concerned.

4. The names of books and journals quoted in the book, and the latin names of plants have been typeset in an italic form so as to distinguish the former from normal text and the latter from English.

5. With permission, some alterations have been made in this edition so as to make its contents more concise and easier to be comprehended by doctors of Western medicine.
